FIG. 00The chain

Why AI doesn't mention your med spa

It is almost never the reason you would guess. Before an assistant can recommend your clinic, five things have to work, in order — and each one only matters once the one above it has passed. It usually breaks at the first one, for reasons that appear in no marketing report you have ever been sent.

FIG. 01Can AI assistants reach your site

Can an AI assistant fetch your website at all?

This is the first question and the one that ends the conversation when the answer is no. An assistant that cannot load your page has nothing to read, nothing to quote, and no reason to name you. Nothing further down this list can compensate for it.

What it looks like when it breaks. A rule in robots.txt, or bot protection at your host or CDN, turning the assistant away before it ever sees a word. In our own survey of 213 med spa sites, nearly one in eleven refused an automated reader — and almost all of them were working perfectly for people.

FIG. 02Can they read it

Having fetched it, can it read your business facts?

Assistants read the HTML your server sends, before any JavaScript runs. If your name, address, city and treatments only appear after a script executes, a reader that does not run scripts sees an empty page where your business should be.

What it looks like when it breaks. A site built so the content loads in afterwards. It looks completely normal in a browser, which is exactly why nobody catches it.

FIG. 03Is there anything worth quoting

Having read it, is there anything worth quoting?

Assistants answer questions, so they favour pages that answer questions — a real question with a real answer under it, a stated price, a plain sentence rather than a paragraph of warm-up. A page can be perfectly readable and still give an assistant nothing to lift.

What it looks like when it breaks. Pages written to impress rather than to answer, and FAQs built as accordions whose text a crawler never counts.

FIG. 04Does the web agree who you are

Does the rest of the web agree who you are?

An assistant is assembling a picture of your business from several sources at once. When those sources disagree — a different phone number here, a different street address there — confidence drops, and a clinic it is unsure about is a clinic it does not name.

What it looks like when it breaks. An old suite number on a directory, a tracking phone number on one page and the real one on another, or a Google Business Profile that has drifted from the website.

FIG. 05What your reviews say

Do you have the one review signal that actually moves anything?

Google review COUNT is the only review variable we have measured moving whether a clinic is named, and it only moves ChatGPT. Not the rating, not how recent they are, not what they say — we tested all three and found nothing.

What it looks like when it breaks. Nothing dramatic. There is no threshold to clear, and anyone who quotes you one is making it up. More helps, and it keeps helping.

FIG. 06Why this order

It is a claim about mechanism, not about severity.

A blocked crawler comes before a missing FAQ because nothing downstream of a failed fetch can matter — not because we think it upsets patients more. That is worth being precise about, because it is what makes the order checkable rather than a matter of opinion. There are no weights here, no points, and nothing to calibrate.

If a report hands you a weighted score, ask what the weights are and who chose them. A chain does not need any.

FIG. 07What we will and will not tell you

We grade what we measured, and say so when we have not.

Two variables have survived our own testing: Google review count, and how often your homepage names its city. Those get graded. Plenty of things that sound plausible — treatment vocabulary, schema markup, how fresh your site looks, review recency — were tested and came back null, so we report them without pretending they are levers, or do not report them at all.

And we diagnose rather than fix. SpaSeen never edits your website, your listings or your content, and never asks for access to any of them. Every finding arrives with a plain instruction you can act on yourself or hand to whoever runs your site.
